The 1982 has the rivits instead of screws so I can't easily rebuild it, plus the cost of the rebuild kit rivals that of just picking up a new one as far as I can tell. I am not worried about having a reserve (would be nice but not necessary) or filter I run an inline and watch my miles for when to fill up. I do want to be sure it has a shut off though.
