I'm reconsidering the XS650... mainly because if I drop below 500cc I will half the insurance costs...

so a quick browse of the local ads turned up these///

"1984 HONDA 350CC, 350cc, Headlights, Speedometer, Tachometer, This bike is in very nice condition. $650.00Exterior Colour:Blue"
1984_HONDA_350CC_350cc_Headlights_Speedometer_Tachometer_This_bike_is_in_very_nice_c.jpg

And the second option...

"1978 HONDA CB400T, has all signals, runs good, $450 obo."

thoughts?

Dan .... Whats up with the insurance system out there ??. How the hell can it drop by half on a 300 / 350cc difference and they are both twin cylinders. Plus the fact they are both vintage / 25-30 year old motorcycles ...... I'm confused .(not hard really) .. :o

If you are making the change I would go with the Honda CB350 .... still lots of parts around

Not hard to get confused... it's MPI ;D

WIth them there is NO difference between a 2007 wheelie pulling fibreglass/plastic covered super bike and a 30 year old all steel UJM... and the cc range is 0-100, 101-499, 500-1000, 1001 and up... Government run insurance monopoly...SUCKS!

Check out their rate calculator at http://www.mpi.mb.ca/irc/vehicle.asp and cry for me ;D

OH.. my 1977 750cc BMW with minimal evrything (including a $1000 cap on a repairs or write-off) costs me $1100 for the season.

Sheesh. Fickle fickle. Talk to me before you go selling the bike :)

I know... but I found this one near Brandon and it seems a much better fit for Tracey than the 650 right now... and the insurance thing is hard to ignore.

Does the CB350 get your vote as well?

Did a little power to weight calculation...

Dan & MojoTracey & CB350Tracey & TX650
Weight673443593
HP503651
LB per HP13.512.311.6

So even the 350 will be quicker with Tracey on it than the me & Mojo... seems good!

Just called... the CB350 is gone... ah well... still going to look for a 350-499 bike for her but will get the 650 tuned for riding/sale anyway

If I was gonna do it over again, I would ditch the xs650. The xs650 only becomes a good handling, fast bike and competitive at AHRMA/club level if you basically rebuild the entire thing. While still a cool looking bike in cafe trim, still handles like the rupp I had when I was 10. My next cafe will probably be a medium Honda, the commando I'm keeping stock.

I agree... the bushing mounted bars drove me nuts today trying to firm them up. Finally managed it along with carb & clutch adjustments. Quite rideable now... and sellable as soon as Tintin & I do a little rim swap... the next owner never needs to now there was a nice set of alloys on this one :D

Trying to get in touch with a guy about a 79 GS400... maybe that one will pan out... but DAMN I didn't realise now nicely built my BMW was until I started working on the XS :P
