I just bought a camshaft on ebay to replace my current one. The PO was using rocker arms that were mismatched, and it was causing havock on the cam.

The cam I ordered is missing the pin on the left side that goes through the points housing, and the spark advancer attaches to. The seller said that the part is not broken off, but rather that it detachable and can be replaced with another pin. Attached is a picture of what I'm talking about. Is it true that this part somehow detaches and can be replaced, or am I being taken for a ride?

Thanks,
Andrew

Nope you should be able to pull the old one out or fashion a new one for the cam.

I think maybe my description wasn't completely clear. Its the whole piece that is circled in the picture that is missing.

You mean the entire end of the shaft is gone? No that doesn't come off or at least it isn't supposed to.

That's not a separate piece, it's part of the shaft. If it's not there then it's broken off and can't be fixed, camshaft is junk.

DrJ is likely right - but can I ask what bike the cam is for? I don't recognize it personally (but perhaps others have).

Oh, and if it's wrong, file a dispute with PayPal right away to protect your payment.

I didn't think that sounded right, but just wanted to confirm. Order came through ebay. The seller already said he would refund, and if he doesn't I'll file a dispute. He was aware the piece was missing, but didn't put it in the description. Anyway, just won an auction for an unused NOS camshaft, so I'll be using it instead.

Tim, its for a 72 cb350. Later model camshaft (skinny). The PO of the bike had an early style camshaft (fat) being used with 2 different styles of rockers. Needless to say, it did some heavy damage to the current camshaft, so I am replacing with the correct one and matching rockers.

Thanks,
Andrew
