Carb Cleaning

Seems probably gonna get some flak for asking, just wanna make sure... If I soak my carbs in pine sol to clean them, all the rubber gaskets (mainly the float bowl gasket) need to be replaced afterward, correct? Thanks.

You need to remove all rubber items. This includes the diaphragm (for CV carbs) Carb should be completely disassembled.

Personally, I would never use caustics or acids to clean a carb. PineSol is a caustic. They do clean, but they erode internal passages. I prefer mechanical cleaning (brushes, small copper wires) and non-corrosive, safe for carburetor, solvents.

Soaking in a solvent will dissolve gum and varnish, but none of the liquids will dissolve dirt particles or rust particles. that's why mechanical cleaning and blowing out of passages is important.
