CB350 Clutch Cover/cable install?

I have a 1972 CB350 and I was changing out to a new clutch cable. When i had everthing done, thinking I did it right, I put the cover back on, tried to engage the clutch and nothing very little tension. I tried to tighten it up with the clutch adjustments, but it just got tighter and the clutch would not engage. I have read a few posts about a "poping" noise and I am not even getting that. The manual that I have is not very helpful at all bein that it have a clutch install section but not the clutch actuator, cover or cable section that goes into detail.

I was hoping someone could help me with the basic install (possibly pictures) of this so that I will have a clutch that works, I am clearly missing the boat on this and being my first bike Im a little in the dark.

you lost or dropped the ball bearing which pushes on the clutch actuator.
