CB350f Dyna Coils

Several questions concerning 5 ohm (black) dyna coils on a '73 cb350f:

Is it safe to file down my stock mounting brackets to accommodate the larger dyna coil terminals or do I need to make new brackets? If I do need to fabricate new brackets, what do I need to keep in mind? Do they do anything other than hold the coils in place?

Lastly, what directions should the secondary towers point? Down and back?

Many thanks,

Yesimivan

I've got a CB350f in the shed, will have to take a look at it and see what you mean?

Otherwise there shouldn't be any problems modifying bracket.

Above is the stock coil and one of the mounting brackets. Notice the 1/4 plug wires heading towards the front of the motorcycle.

Here is the (filthy) mounting bracket. Is it safe to grind this to hold a larger coil terminal? Maybe one that looks like this...

I apologize. I have absolutely no idea how to make these photos smaller.

Thank you very much,

When fabricating new mounting brackets, what do I need to keep in mind?

I guess what I'm asking is what purpose do they serve other than just holding the coil there?

Edit: Also, I think I can make the coils fit with the spark wire outlets facing down and forward (like in the photo) and avoid the tank altogether. Is it safe to just file out the stock mounting brackets and sit the new coils down in there?

Did you ever finish mounting those coils? I'm about to order some and have the same bike.

Thanks,
Ben

They also ground the coil, so no rubber mounts or anything that will impede the current back to the grounded frame! I think you should be fine in just filing or grinding the sides off of the OG mount. I think the leads will lead out under the tank and strait toward the front of the bike which is where you need them.

He is mounting on a cb350k not a cb350f, which mount differently, so you can follow his idea, but the entire bracket would have to be different. It would be much easier to modify your stock bracket!

I think leads/outlets hit rocker cover going down/back so you have to space coils upwards slightly, there looks like enough space under tank

Yep, I do believe you are right about that PJ!, but a simple drilled hole throught the stamped frame slightly above the stock location hole should do the trick.

I would have to wait until I get home to check mine to be sure though!
