I know this probably wont get a response but, im working on a 1978 honda cb400t ,in terms of timing it appears that both cylinders hit TDC at same time , so which cylinder do you set your timing to??? i know its a total newb question but any response would be greatly appreciated

You set timing to the one that is on the compression stroke. But actually, looking at the parts fiche, there is only one coil so it is a wasted spark motor, which means the coil fires both cylinders at the same time. Each cylinder gets a spark for the compression stroke, and a second spark on the exhaust stroke (wasted spark) that does nothing. You can set timing on either cylinder because they both get a spark every time the piston comes to TDC...whether it is on the compression or exhaust stroke.
