I have a 1978 CB550 that came with a 4 into 2 exhaust. They sound nice but have a few rusted out spots on muffler and I'm not that crazy about the looks. I have intentions about getting a new 4 into 1 system but I do like how close the 4 into 2 hugs the bottom of the bike. I know it's not a dirtbike but it will see some adventuring from time to time and a litttle ground clearance would be nice.
So I cut the muffler down right after the 2 pipes join into one and was thinking a shorty muffler(see pic) would look pretty cool. The single outlet is 2.25 inches. I was expecting the opening to be wide open but it turns out the 2 headers are joined right away and just one small opening exists. See Pics
So if I put that shorty muffler on that outlet with just that small opening will it perform. I have no idea so opinions please. Please note this is mostly about looks. I thought the sound and performance was fine as it was.
This would cost me just as much as a new MAC 4 into 1 so if it's not a good idea I just want to know.
