Crazy Engine idea

Alright has a crazy idea that came from playing with a bunch of motors. Please please please only contribute in a positive manner. I want to approach this from a "how could it be done?" Manner, not a "this is why it won't work" way. That being said, everyone who has any ideas, please share them.

I got to thinking, and if nothing but for academic purposes, how could an engine be created to be a parallel twin, with a belt driven overhead cam, fuel injected, and liquid cooled, using as many existing parts as possible?

I came up with a gl1000 head, barrels, pistons, rods, and got fuzzy once I got to the crank. So my first question is there an existing crankcase setup that could be modified to fit the gl parts?

Yamaha FZ07/MT07 engine. Just change the cam chain and gears to belt and pullys

Aren't the GL barrels cast into the cases?

It's a tough ask because almost all twin cylinder bottom ends have a central cam chain (except a Brit twin, perhaps??)

Guy in Australia is doing XS650 (probably finished it, I haven't checked for a couple of years)
There are a few XS650's 'down under' with belt drive to cam
Just cut the complete side off GL motor and have flange welded on to fit a sump (you have one that's been crashed heavily one side?)
