Define "play in clutch lever"? (with pic)

Hey guys, I'm adjusting my clutch and the manual says to adjust the lower adjuster screw until there is "10-20mm of play in the clutch lever" and then tighten the lock nut.

So what is it referring to? The space between the perch stop and the lever itself or the distance the outer part of the lever can swing? See pic below: A or B?

you'd be wanting 'B'

the distance at 'A' should be maybe 3 - 4 mm

I read in a manual one day, that you should be able to fit a nickel in spot "A". not crossways, but thickness.
