fighter gauges

I am wondering what aftermarket gauges people put on their fighters. I know some run 'em without but I want to have a speedo/tach/temp gauge cluster or combined unit. the temp gauge I can prob just run the stock one and fab up a mounting bracket. For speedo and tach I have seen some digital setups that look nice, but don't know anything about who makes them or how to set them up. For tach I figure most aftermarket are electronic induction based, and for speedos there is some kind of sender that is set up on the wheel and then calibrated to wheel size.

So if you have a fighter or stunt bike or naked bike with non-stock gauges, I would love to see it.

It's very good (fully programmable, accurate speedo, looks neat, pretty easy to wire up ;))

You can also get them in the square version as well as the round pod. They work and they're affordable.

I thought of getting one of the round units, and while they look good in all the pics, they are actually fairly small, and my eyes ain't that good any more ;)
 
cool. that acewell looks great, and from checking their US distributor's web site the price looks all right. just what I was looking for. I haven't done gauges on a "modern" bike before, this case being a 1992 CBR600F2. which says a lot about the age of my past projects. I am looking forward to going digital. =)

hows the peripheral visibility of the tach readout, and the lighting at night with it? and what model is yours?
 
Not sure if this is the same with the square ones, but my round Acewell needs to be viewed pretty well square on or it's blurry. They are backlight blue, so viewing at night is great (awesome, in fact ;)).

The only criticism I would throw at the gauge is the idiot lights are a bit hard to see in the daytime / sunlight. Other than that, you won't be disappointed.

Koso do a whole range of neat instruments.

if you are looking for cheap and basic but effective, you might want to look at the VApor from Trail tech

I have one on the Phat Trakka (stalled project) and it's small and fits nicely behind the small front numberplate. So it's almost invisible to others.

A great cafe look is the bRit bike raised twin instruments above the headlamp.

Or get a huge electronic tacho from say a Polaris snowmobile and mount it like a race bike above the top triple and use a tiny bicycle speedo.

Or just fit an old Honda tacho up high to exaggerate that look.

No shortage of options really.
 
great ideas. thats the only problem with the integrated digital units..... I prefer an analog tach when riding. or a VERY visible digital one. always good to know where you're at rev wise, esp if you like to push the redline.
 
I found some gauges on ebay that were pretty sweet still digital so I dont know how hard they would be to see but they had all sorts of cool stuff like a built in dyno and such. they were pretty cheap too a little more than the acewells but still affordable. Acewell is supposed to be coming out with a gauge that has an anolog tach.

+1^^^^ I have a friend who had a unit made up for a couple of his projects and they really are a quality product. Just so nice... Expensive, but for an all out custom they are SICK (drewski, love the bike BTW.)

thanks, that is a very sweet looking unit and I like the tach. does it light up in color or black LCD? those are nice looking headlights too.

lots of choices, but yes, it is a budget project so right now leaning towards the acewell unit. interesting they may be coming out with an analog tach model.
 
They have had that model coming out for the last year two years. Since i have learned of the acewell they have been gonna come out with a gauge with an anolog tach. I dont think its gonna happen.
 
i think i read on their US website that they were going to be released in Dec 2009. but there was no price listed and they were not available to purchase.

but having seen the photo, I dont really care for the look of it. I was thinking it would be cool to run the stock tach (just the tach) and then one of the acewell digital units for the speedo and indicators.
