First Ride of Deacon's KZ Cafe

Well yesterday evening I took my KZ650 project for it's maiden voyage. I hooked up with a buddy of mine and we took a run out to Cape Spear (the most easterly point in North America). I wanted my first ride on it to be on a nice quiet stretch so that I could get used to the bike and so I could safely test it out to see if there were any problems. There was very little traffic so it was great, nice and relaxing. The bike worked pretty good. The clutch cable needs to be adjusted a bit, and I found the rear wheel had a slight wobble to it. I have since taken the swing arm off and the bearings are shot, so I'm in the process of replacing them now. Only problem is that I have to go away this coming week so it's going to be a while before I can get back on it, can't wait.

Here is a before and after shot of the bike (before is on the right ;)):

And here are a couple of pics of our bikes out at Cape Spear (camera is crap so the pictures are not the best):

I have to take a few close up pics of the bike once I get the swing arm back on.

Lookin good man!!! Good to hear you had a good first ride (other than the whole swing arm fiasco that is). I'm still working on getting the carbs tuned and intake leaks fixed on mine before I can get a really good ride in so don't feel too bad about the swingarm!

Thanks anarki. Yeah, I was good to get in the first ride, even though it's again in pieces in the garage. Just the fact that I had most of the bike apart and it actually ran I'm pleased :D I had to rejet the carbs for the pod filters and the suggestions for the jet sizes by the guys over on kzrider were spot on. I never opened the bike up yet so I'm not sure about how well it will work then, but for idle and low to mid range driving it seems to be spot on. Best of luck getting your carbs tuned.

Great pictures! Your bike looks really good. 8)

Nice to be able to get her out for a ride.

Cape Spear (the most easterly point in North America).

Is that in Canada? I would have thought Newfoundland was the most easterly point in North America.

Thanks 78, felt really good to finally get her out. Cape Spear is in Newfoundland. Just a short run outside St. John's. Usually a good place to see icebergs and whales when they are around.

!!!

Great to hear you got it out man.

When you get it back and sorted out we'll have to get the newly founded NL Chapter together for a spin. Cape spear isn't a bad run if you come back the long way (into the goulds).

Have to bring along a decent camera when that finally happens for sure.

Sounds good, would be great to get NL meet going. Yeah, we never had time to go the long route. Just a quick run out and back.
