Fork Repair Question (help)

Hi there I have a 1972 CL175 and I am in the process of rebuilding the forks. I have managed to get the wheel off and the forks are still connected to the thing that holds them together (forgot name). Anyways, the forks are held each by a screw at the bottom through a small entrance. Each has one screw and although I have not stripped either yet, I will soon if I keep trying. Any tips on removing? I think the narrow entrance is too small for an impact driver. I'll try to add a picture if I can.

I'm a noob but appreciate the help. Thanks!

You do not need to remove that screw to disassemble the forks. Once you remove the fork ears and boots you should see a circlip at the top of the fork lower. Carefully remove the circlip. After it's out, compress the fork tube into the fork lower then pull it back out with light force. Do this repeatedly and eventually the fork tube should just pop out of the lower with the piston and seal attached.
