Howdy

Just got myself an 81 GSX 250E, been trying to get it started but im having some carby issues.

Dissembled them, and now reassembling them, we cant seem to get the large piston spring in and compacted without it springing up and bending? anyone have any tips on how to get the cap on with a compacted srping inside.

And also im not sure about the fuel tap positions and how they work.

Mine has only reserve and on, ive read something about a screw and a priming function.

The carb is leaking petrol through the carb but i think its because the the fuel cock is set to prime?

HELP

Pictures would help a lot.....

If your petcock is like what I think, than the brass screw is the "prime" - unscrew it and gas pours directly into your carbs. If it is screwed in all the way and your petcock is set to On or Reserve, than it needs vacuum from the carbs to flow fuel.

You mean the springs on top of each slide is bending? You should be able to put the caps straight down over the spring.....

Yup. Vacuum petcocks are garbage and when they fail you throw them away or buy OEM parts only. K&L rebuild kits for those NEVER work. Usually leak worse after you install one of their kits... Prime is a constant flow of gas like rich said. On and reserve don't flow gas until carbs provide suction.

You're slide springs... I've had this happen to me from time to time... It should be very easy to get the spring to compress IF it is in the center bump in the cap and I'm the slide correctly and all the way seated.. If it's hung up on something or if there is a plastic piece inside the slide to hold the needle down and you have it installed upside down then it will be difficult to get it on correctly.. Make sure the slide parts are installed correctly and the spring is fully extended as it should be without any snags... Should be easy to put the cap on.
