Been Around the Block
Hi there,
Pretty much a newbie here, but I'm learning. It's cool to see how much you learn about bikes when you just sit down and take it apart with little direction. My first bike was a stupid idea...I let a salesman talk me into buying a Suzuki FZ1 as my first bike. Literally five minutes after I signed the papers another guy walks in, goes, "What'd you buy, man?" I tell him an FZ1, it's my first bike. He goes, "Oh..wow..um..that's...wow." Needless to say I totaled it 3 months later. Luckily I escaped with just a bruised up knee. I was terrified of bikes for a while after that, but I loved them, nonetheless. My girlfriend found a 1979 Honda CX500 Custom on CL for $750. Without doing too much research on it, I went ahead and bought it. But before I really even rode it, I knew I wanted to fix it up somehow. Basically, it looked like shit. I started just cleaning it up, then a coworker one day said, "Hey, you know, people take those bikes and do really cool stuff with them...you should modify that thing to the max." i looked into it a little, and realized that those old school awesome racer bikes I had seen every once in a while were called 'cafe racers' (told ya - NEWBIE) and damn, I wanted one. So I started turning it into something better. Of course, the bike I happen to own is a freaking hard ass mofo to turn into a cafe racer, so go me. Awesome. Anyway, I'm struggling through this (financially as well as finding out stupid crap that makes it harder to do this...like a stupid angled frame...grrrrr) but I LOVE this website and I'm on it constantly for ideas and inspiration. Keep up all the awesome work!
That's my long-winded intro. Here's my short one:
Hi! Cheers!
