How much does a CX500 vibrate?

I've looked on dotheton.com and on google as to how bad the cx500 vibrates. I'd like to know because I liked the looks of the low and mean cafe racer. so I'm thinking about doing something like that, but i'm not going to copy it. I just don't want to make a big investment and then be disappointed in how comfortable it is. I know i could probably ride the bike before I buy it, but there's always the possibility that it currently doesn't run or the owner doesn't want me to ride it before I buy it.
 
Less than a CB, more than a boxer. It's a pretty well balanced engine.
 
Thx I was thinking about a cb350 nvm then lol now I got another question ik that Harley's vibrate so much that they wear out faster obviously this won't be a problem but is this a good or bad bike to have then? Like maintenance-wise and etc compared to a Harley
 
CX is really pretty smooth running, low maintenance, change oil and check fluids regularly and it will likely run forever. I bought a non runner that turned over and am now riding it. I like it, easy to ride and not to much bike to handle for a new rider.
 
I rode a CX500 for two years. It wasn't outstanding in any one area, but it was competent for everything I needed it to do. A real sort of work horse. No glamour, no fuss, no issues (except for a replacement ignitor I needed).

Not a good looking bike, though, and it was kinda heavy.

I never understand these notions.... The CX from what I've read is a fairly bullet proof bike.

I've been riding Harley's for going on 40 years. I've never had one strand me, never had one shed any parts while riding and have never understood why people bang on them. I've owned literally dozens of bikes and Harley's haven't been any more trouble than any others have. In fact, I always have at least one Harley in the garage knowing when my other stuff isn't running, I have a Harley that will get me there. By the way, I ride 300+ days a year and have been known to put 50,000 miles on at least one Harley in a year. Are they fast? Not really. Are they heavy? for the most part, yes. But they have always been a solid reliable bike for me, and even as I usually own several bikes at a time, I always have at least one Harley.
 
Not to bash on Harley's but I've read and heard that since they vibrate so much they wear out faster, And I don't care for the noise they make especially because I've had people pass me on Harley's with my windows down and that's very annoying and painful. Otherwise they're a good bike. But anyways thanks for the help guys

I can understand preference. I hated CX's, they did nothing for me, but some of the guys on here have built some beautiful CX's. The Harley thing, they do vibrate, but depending on what engine, they all have a sweet spot where they smooth out, and most don't have a decent exhaust. They don't have to be loud, but as any bikes on here, if you don't have mufflers, it could get obnoxious.

If you do basic maintenance on them, they aren't much different than most bikes. I know many riders with well over 50-60,000 miles on their bikes and they run fine. When you think about it, most on here have bought a low mileage Asian bike with few miles on it, out of somebodies garage, backyard or field. Why do these bikes get abandoned with so few miles on them? Usually something broke on a bullet proof design, which means somebody didn't love it enough to maintenance it. I think Harley is no different, if you don't take care of it, it will eventually end up in the hands of somebody like us, who bring back the dead for the enjoyment and use it was intended for.
 
The cockroach

1 they dont come in as many colors

2 you cant use a cockroach to boost your john deere lawn tractor

3 there is no way to open a beer with a cockroach i can think of 27 ways to do it using a cx500

My cb350 didn't vibrate much, but my sr500 is likely going to shake itself to pieces haha.
the cx design makes sense, just not from an aesthetic perspective lol.
 
Stock cx500s aren't very nice looking but what I've seen them turned into is just awesome check out the low and mean cafe racer I'm going for a design like theirs but the same I just like how it's lowered
 
If you want proof a CX can be made cool just look at the BOTM banner.

Can't speak for everyone, obviously, but my experience of Harleys is of AMF-era models. Definitely NOT reliable machines for obvious reasons. I'm sure they're fine motorcycles now, but they have an image issue that turns me off. (Rather the "culture" turns me off but the company encourages it)

Maybe it's a comparison thing? Late adoption of EFI/ABS as compared to the competitors. Then there's the price issue as well.

It's not really fair to judge a company's current offerings by their past transgressions particularly when they've left behind their failings for the most part... but when I see a Harley I'm still reminded of the oil stains in my grandpa's driveway and the summer of 3 clutches. (1973 FX)
