How to remove throttle cable?

Coast to Coast
I am taking out my carbs on my 72 CB500/4 and might seem like a dumb question, but how to I release (remove) the throttle cables? Please see photo below. The red arrows point to the point where I need to slide/pop out the end of the cable.

Thanks,
John

You need to remove some tension first from the cable. You can push back the that lever with your hand and you may have enough slack to remove it. Also, you'll need to loosen the lock nut holding the cable to the carb (top right of your picture). Then do the same with the other cable at the bottom.

I have full slack in the cable, but that little piece attached to the end of the cable does not want to come out of its slot. Does this little piece have to be turned with a small flat head screwdriver to get it out?

No turning.
Pull the cable until its vertical over the barrel so it goes in the slot, and then slide it sideways out.

Like deacon said you have to remove the nuts first.

Thanks. I got them out. It wasn't obvious that they come out sideways. A little tricky, but got them out. Thanks!
