On a CL360 stock TEC coil?
You will have two coils. Each will have two small leads. One is positive from the battery, the other is a dual female plug. One end of the dual-plug will go to the respective points breaker and the other to the capacitor.
Yellow is for the Left cylinder and blue for the Right.
With the coil off the bike and completely disconnected:
Take an ohm meter and set to the tens range.
Connect one lead to the black wire and the other test lead to the dual plug. Expect 3-4Ω
Remove the plug cap from the high-tension lead of the coil.
Set range to tens-thousand range.
Move one lead (doesn't matter which) and insert it into the high-tension lead. Expect anything more than 9.5kΩ
Now test the spark boot itself by putting a test lead into both ends. For that bike, the boot should read 5kΩ. Don't use spark plugs with resistors in them with a resistor boot.
Don't touch the test leads as you perform the tests, as your body will effect measurements.
That won't tell you as much as seeing the spark though, and how the coil will function once it's hot.
An easy test is to wire both coils into the bike. Insert a spark plug into each boot and leave them resting on the engine to ground them.
Rotate the engine so that one of the breaker points is closed. Now turn the ignition key on and use something soft (plastic) to open the breaker points. Each time they open, you will be able to observe the spark.
Turn the key to off and rotate the engine so the other set of points is closed. Repeat for that side.
Never leave the key on for more than a few seconds at a time, as it's cooking the coil that isn't being tested.
