The aftermarket pipes on my NSR run a manifold that bolts on to the cylinder, with springs to secure the header pipe into the manifold. The problem is, the springs are on the same side of the pipe, so they apply an uneven pressure to where the header and manifold attach. Therefore it leaks oily black crap out one side of the connection (the side with no springs). There is no groove for an o-ring, like dirt bikes usually have. I have attempted to form a makeshift seal by compacting aluminium foil into the space on the header part (second pic). It seals better than without it, but still leaks on the non spring side.
Is there a flexible sealant on the market that will withstand the temperatures in this area? Or what other ideas have you guys got for getting this thing sealed?
I will eventually restore the pipes, and come up with a more permanent solution, like machining an o-ring groove, or adding a spring connection to the other side. But in the mean time any semi-permanent seal will do. I just want to sort the last few small issues quickly, so I can get this thing road registered within the next week.
