Im painting my frame and i was wondering if i need this? Its has all the info like mfg date, tire size, VIN, make and model and so on...Just wondering if i need this for legal reasons or if the stamped VIN is enough.
Thanks!

You need it to register, or update your registration, on your bike. You can pull it off to paint the frame, but it needs to be riveted back into place afterwards.

its a sticker not a metal plate...its already starting to peel from degreasing/stripping the paint. My bike is already registered and all i need is to get it inspected and get a new tag after i re-assemble it. But its already in the system. Im going to try to save it as best as i can but like i said, its starting to peel off.

The VIN that is stamped into the frame is all you need. Make sure that you don't put so much paint on it that it can't be read. I have seen VIN#'s made almost illegible from painting. I've even seen them covered up with Bondo as part of moulding the frame. The VIN must remain legible for inspection or in some cases if you get pulled over.

James, I'm assuming this is for the GR? Just take a bunch of pics of the sticker and save them on your computer. If you ever find out there is a problem, hopefully you could just print out the info on a new sticker and slap it on the neck.

yes rich it is. Thank you for clarifying! just gonna throw a coat of color over the stamped vin and just not hit it with any more coats. Thanks again!
