I've ultimately traced the problem back to the mechanical advance, I put the old springs back on and all the problems went away, but brought back my unwanted cruise control and ghost rev. The new springs are tight enough to drw the weights back in at idle but too tense to allow them to fan out early enough and vice versa with the old springs...time for another boyer unit I guess>>>>
