550 is a nice bike - handles great - I had a 500 and a 550 and loved them both but have recently turned towards twins and have a BMW R75 and a Yamaha XS650 project.

Your pics aren't showing up.

Interesting 2 for the 550f have you done a long trip on your 550 say TO to Collingwood
wot you doin to the XS 650 jim

Nope not yet but I plan to this summer... Shannonville, Kingston probably

I have neighbour that owned a 75 cb550K in the early 80's and he claims to have ridden it from Windsor to california, "back in the day", without a single problem.

Welcome.

I've had my KZ since '84, and find her a great bike for all types of riding, short or long distance. Still lots of parts available aftermarket and on ebay. In it's time it was supposed to give the CB750 and run for it's money, as well as other 750s of the time.
I'm sure the CBs are plentiful as well. Actually a quick peek on ebay shows even more listings for them.
Hondas usually are more popular over the Kawis.

They are both good bike, without a doubt. If you can get a really good deal on either one, why not get both?

I never did more than a couple hours at a stretch on the 550, but am confident it could pull you along all day on the highway. So long as you don't weigh 400 pounds of course.

Want endurance gents?

The KZ is heavier and has a longer wheelbase. That said... my dad has a 77' KZ1000 and I have my striped 71' CB750 but both are fun to ride.
I wouldn’t say the KZ is faster but for long rides at high speeds the longer wheelbase and weight will help stability.
