im doing a new build and im using a mikuni tm 36. my questions are how do you install a push pull throttle cable to it, and once its on the bike what does each line connect to. i figured out the red line is the fuel line but cant figure out the other two.

You don't use a push/pull throttle cable with a TM carb.

These are sophisticated flat slide carbs and you need to understand all the details if you're going to even begin to get the engine running with one of them. What bike is this going on?

At minimum you need a single cable throttle with the compatible cable for the TM carb.

its going on an 85 vt500c shadow that im bobbing i chose it because from what ive researched it has a good throttle response compared to a vm. and with the single cable will it have that same snap back motion?

i will do more research on my end and hopefully my first build goes ok. any other suggestions or tips on this carb setup is greatly appreciated thanks guys

i found a thread on a different forum that took some steel pipe and made an intake since the vt500 is stock with a dual keihin carb setup under the tank this mod changes it from 2to1 and out the side of the bike the venturi is the same diameter as my stock carbs so i think it will fit the bike fine i was just stuck on how exactly the cables hooked up to the carburetor

yeah you'll probably have to make or buy a new cable to fit that carb. I made new ones for my VM34s and it wasnt too hard. Just make sure that their gonna hold for gods sake, losing throtttle control in traffic is NOT fun! ;D

i had already bought a push pull throttle but now it looks like i wont need it after all but thank you for clarifying what kind of cable to use

i had another question.... when i got the carburetor it had one black line attached near the bottom and two red lines on the sides. im guessing the black line is my main fuel line but where do the two red ones connect to?

Are you going to be able to jet this things the right way?
How many spare sets of jets did you order when you got the carb?

Indeed, Have you looked into base jetting for your set up? The carb might run right out of the box but it wont be quite right.

I didn't order any spare jets yet I'm taking it one step at a time. So just hook up the black line to my tank and can I cap the nipples that the red hoses are connected to

I don't know much about the TM carbs, but I'm pretty sure if there is a red hose connected to the carbs, they are vent hoses. So don't cap them off.

Might want to search around here for the Honda Carb theory/information PDF
Its a great read that will help you understand what a carb is and how it works.
I know that everyone has to start some place, but you might be in over your head to tune these. You should find someone local that can help you. You will need two to four complete sets of jets, and a dyno to do the job right. I would expect to spend as much tuning if not more then what the carbs cost.
