Been Around the Block
The sun finally decided to shine today so I got some pics of the bike all finished up and shining in the sun (except for the new carb holders that I ordered today, so riding won't happen till the end of the week but the rest is done!)

What I did:
Built seat/tail section from stock seat pan and cb550 tank
Removed stock gauges and cluster replaced with 2.25" white faced gauges from www.mikesxs.com
Relocated key switch into headlight bucket
New progressive wound rear shocks
Replaced stock vm24 carbs with vm26s
K&N pods
Shortened throttle cables
Replaced points ignition with stock electronic ignition from 1981 kz650
Kerker K2 baffle fitted into MAC 4-1 can
Clubman bars
3" round bar end mirrors
Candy tangerine paint with ghosted spade on gas tank

To come this next winter:
Rear sets
Add a bend to the exhaust to kick the can upward to a nice angle
Polishing polishing and more polishing
Better seat!!!!

Thanks!! I'm really pleased with the way the paint came out, glad I didn't try to pull this off myself with lesser materials. Just waiting for the new intake boots to come in later this week, throw those on and get the carbs dialed in and I'll be racking up the miles!!

It's bee-u-tee-full!! Way to go! ;D ;D

I like the little red Roadmaster wagon too! ;)

Well you know, you can never have just one ride ;D. So mine's not an H2, but it sure is more environmentally friendly!!! :P

So after much tinkering, moving parts, almost getting stranded, etc etc, I switched back to points instead of the electronic I was putting in her. As near as I can tell the ignitier was overheating and cutting out the 2/3 coil and all of a sudden I'd find myself limping around on two cylinders. So I got a new set of points and condensor and swapped the old ignition back in. As of now she's timed by ear (don't have a timing light and I'm trying to track one down before buying one for a one time use) and she's running pretty good. Had her out yesterday and couldn't resist the temptation to grab hard into her anymore so I let her run free, and damn was I impressed!!!! She cracked a ton barely into 4th gear! Used to shift into 5th at just over that, so I'm guessing I've done something right!!! As of yesterdays ride I've now had three people follow me either home or to my next stop because they had to check out the bike. That's a pretty awesome feeling too.
Hopefully this weekend I'll find a timing light that I can borrow so I can get all the fine tuning taken care of, but she's a one kick start with only about 30 seconds of 1/2 choke needed to warm up. ;D

Your paint job is awsome! Sounds like you are going through the debugging process like I am. Once you get it all dialed in, people are going to love seeing this thing go down the road.

im not gonna lie, im kinda jealous that you broskis to the north can run without turn signals..... i want to rip mine off so bad.

Just get some super tiny short stalkers and make them almost invisible. Satisfy John Q. Law and keep her looking nice and clean at the same time. That was my plan if I was going to have to run them.

Tonight is kind of a big night. I've finally got the bike dialed in (mostly, still need to get a hold of a timing light to get the timing dead on, but she's running strong anyway) and a bunch of us vintage types (a lot of guys from the local VJMC chapter and some others of us that don't really run with packs all that much) are converging on the local weekly gathering of vintage bikes and rods, an impromptu show and shine that happens every Wednesday at a bar called Flashbacks here in Omaha. It's my first time out with something worth showing and I'm really looking forward to the reactions she'll get. I'll post some pics up assuming I remember to grab my digi before I roll out.

Looks like you turned the headlight bucket upside-down...and it looks great ! Great color choice ! Very nice scoot !!!

Yeah, I flipped the headlight bucket so that I would have room to mount the key switch in the bucket. Thanks for the compliments everyone!! I had a hell of a good time building this bike and I'm having even more fun riding the snot outta her!

A red Roadmaster wagon? Gee, I didn't know Buick made a Roadmaster wagon... where's the big toothy chrome grill? ;D

Great work; I've been looking at it for a while now, and finally decided that I had to tell you how much I like it. Have fun riding it...
