Always had a love for old cafe bikes, yet never owned one. I just got a 1973 Yamaha TX750 with a blown engine... (I know the engines were crap) What I got it for was to get a street legal chassis, and the plan is to put a Yamaha 500cc 2 stroke single in it for power. Am I getting myself into something that won't work well or will that be a cool Cafe Bike.....

I also currently own a 2009 HD and a 1985 Yamaha RZ350

Seems like as good a bike as any. I personally don't know about the engine swap, but with enough work anything's possible. What happened to the motor anyway? Pistons seized?
 
Welcome to DTT. Ya, like Rich asked; "what happened to the motor"? Can it be fixed? Running 500 single smoker is always badass, you just have to make sure the frame wont dwarf the motor. It will look like a motorized bicycle (which is ok, if its a motorized bicycle). Im sure youll come up with something cool anyway you decide to run with it!

Have not looked at the motor as of yet, I'm putting an RZ350 back together before I start on the next project. The normal issue with these motors was, being a 2 cylinder vertical twin, they used 2 balance shafts to control vibration. Problem was, the balance shafts sat in the bottom of the sump and had a tendency to foam the oil if you turned too many revs, in turn, starving the crank of oil and seizing it. Don't know if that's the issue yet. Best part is, I only paid $200 for it and should be able to part out the motor for more than that.

To fill the gap between the head and the top of the frame. The 500 pipe comes out of the front of the motor, curls around the frame and runs under the tank, seat and will exit out of the back center or side.
