New Lift at Princess Auto

It's damn similar to the one picture below, it's not on-line but in their March 25th sale flyer.

The PA one has a 1'000lb capacity, 16"x16" lift area, 4"-31" lift range, weighs 116 lbs.

$199 and it's all yellow

for the space challenged it looks like a compact lift... you just can't climb on the bike and make vroom sounds ;D

Looks like it does the same thing as those 'motorcycle jacks' you see for sale at Crappy Tire and Princess Auto for $90 all the time, but the advantage of this one is it leaves the area under the bike more open for things like trays to catch oil etc.

I saw it in the flyer, and wondered how well it would work.

My exhaust hangs below the frame and engine, and would be in the way.
You could use wood blocks I guess, but need to line them up, and risk that they might slip out of position.

I still like the lift tables you ride/roll the bike on and you lift the bike by the wheels. Unless you need to work on one of the wheels, then you need some jack stands or another lift, like this one:

Here's a wood stand I have plans for that I might build one day:

Well, I took the plunge and picked one of the Princess Auto lifts up yesterday. I'd buy a table, but a) don't have the room for one and b) would still need a jack to be able to remove wheels.

The lift isn't quite as described however - it doesn't have two 'fingers' to go under the bike - it has a square platform that lifts the bike - rectangular tubing welded together in a square with rubber padding on top. The hole in the middle 'should' allow for oil changes.

The rest is similar - wide spread legs on the base - will be able to put oil drain pans below etc. I did notice on the model they had in the store that the platform tilts slightly back towards the jack body as it rises. So the bike wouldn't be perfectly level when raised. Not that far off level, but still an annoyance.

I haven't opened the box yet - still contemplating it. I think I'd have opted for the more typical jack they used to sell that is like the Crappy Tire version. It has adjustable fingers that you can cradle the frame with, allowing for exhaust etc. to be worked around. But, it doesn't leave the bike open underneath for oil changes. Pretty minor issue though. Also about 1/2 the price of this one. Alas they don't seem to sell it any more.

Will report in when/if I assemble this one.

Hey Tintin , great looking bike!! is that a XS model? Also I noticed your running a front tubular fork brace , how do you like it? Can you still mount a fender with it? I was thinking of picking one up to try out on my KZ. ;D

I like the brace mainly for the vintage look, and yep, a fender shouldn't be a problem at all with this. It's designed to go over a fender.

You can see more of my bike (XS650) in my 19 page long project thread:
