Hello, everyone. let me first start of on who i'am My name is Tom. my nick name is speedy. the date behind my nick name is the date i grad from Motorcycle mechanics Institute in orlando FL.USA . I feel thats when i became a true motorcycle person. I started riding sport bikes in 2001 my first a suzuki katana600, then i got a 2002 suzuki GSXR600. did alot of race stuff to that bike. then I got a 1999 yamaha road star1600 cruiser. and now my new found love my project bike a 1974 Honda CB125S witch is going to become a cafe road racer. i joined some cafe web forms to learn as much as i can about building my bike. and to share what i now about making performance. I have been trainied in HONDA, and suzuki, also in DYNOJET performance tuning.
I try to support the sport as much as i can as i live my life thinking about bikes and riding bikes.
I'm 27 years old and love the vintage race bikes. they tell a story on how the times were. todays bikes yes very hightech and there not alot you need to do to make them faster. the old bike it takes alot of time and work. to make them go faster and handle better.
this is why i'm taking a cb125s and making something of an old school with high tech tuning to make it something diffrent on the streets where i live. some say its slow. but what the kids today dont know is you have to really ride these little machines to go fast.
I have over 100 hrs of track time on my 02 GSXR600. now adays i just ride and enjoy life.
 
I sure will. right now its in a barn waiting for me to start working on it. right now im doing alot of searching for normal parts to rebuild the little engine into a mighty mouse with a big bore 145cc kit and a stroker crank to make it 175cc might mouse of fury. with a megacycles cam, some mild head work, and a custom one off exhuast that i'll be working on. the carb of choise is a keihin CR carb 26mm should do the trick. might be over kill but its what i got sitting the shop. so far i have about 50% of what i need to redo the engine. the transmission will get some magic done to it with under cutting the gears for a more positive shift I'll modifie the shift drum and the detent plat for a better feel. wont get any false shift when im done. the header I'll be making is a step header. with if i do it right will increase flow for more scavenging in the cylinder for alittle bit more power to keep the DB low. IM going to use a new style muffler from hindle for the 2007-2008 CBR125R. some old school looks and feel with some new school performance should make for a good cafe road racer. for the head light im going with a Suzuki bandit 1200 headlight and for the tail/brake light im going to use a yamaha R! setup so i can also wire the turn signals into it. for the front turn signals im going to use mini stalk lights. but right now its first pull it apart clean it up and cut and remove what it dont need. and put some work into the areas it does need. I will be gusiting the frame to make it more ridged for more feed back on the road. for suspension. I'll be keeping it simple but with some high stuff like removing the chrome on the forks and going with titanium nitride coating witch lowers friction and will out last chrome and doesnt pit or rust. will be upgrading the rear suspension with works performance shocks. my little honda will handle like its on rails when i get done with it. yet it wont be raced. just a simple back road shreading little bike.

I bombed around on that for a few years.

thank you everyone. well i have been doing some searching and found a yoshimura parts list for the CB125S. these parts are nolonger around but if they are still out there there must be worth alot of money. but for me finding out this info ment to me poeple back in the day thought about getting more power and racing these little CB125S. now if i can find some info on if these bikes were raced and what did they do to compete. did they add fairings or run them naked. I'm very into building some diffrent. as i found out that a company called LIFAN makes copies of the old honda engine. and what looks like they did some up dates. I found an importer and chatted with the person. they are going to send me a junk engine. to see if some parts will cross over to the old honda. if so i might get a complete 12 volt system with CDI. also see if the tranny gears will swap over. if so I might have a chance to make it to the ton.powroll still makes BBK 145cc kits. and stroker cranks to get 175cc, megacycles still makes full on race cam for the little honda. plus i found out that my little 26mm carb really is a 29mm and that yoshimura used this size on a stage 3 CB125S race motor. witch means i have the right carb to do the job. also i found some notes that the exhaust header chould be 1-1/4 I.D. with a 38" header tube to muffler. my little mighty mouse is almost ready to get torn into and build into a fast screaming little mouse of fury. so far the forks are pulled apart and getting cleaned. so i can get them recoated with some high tech stuff. so far thats it. still working on finding stuff. this is my new hobbie to make my little honda hit a ton and not kill my self when doing it.
 
heres some pics. this person replyed to an ad i put on the internet. and It was a great deal. i couldnt pass up. its a very nice but rough bike that i can restore into a nice honda Cb125 cafe bike. and enjoy for years to come.
 
it sat for some time. so far I love it. its going to take me some time to get it the way i want it to be.
I been doing alot more searching for info found some on another board about how i can make honda XL125 parts work to get a full road race engine and put out some good numbers with the right tuning. hoping to shoot for 12 plus at the rear wheel witch is alot for a little 125. but my engine will be a big bore stroker pushing the limits of 175cc. with 11:1 pistons. working on getting needle bearings for a new race cam that im gona have cut and grinded by webcams. also alot of alum parts to save wt. dont now yet on handle bars thinking clubmen bars, or clip-ons. witch every gives it that vintage road care bike feel. the only thing thats missing from this bike other then the broken headlight is the front brakes. they wear the cable driven kind witch is ok im going to upgrade to hydraulic. might make custom brackets and mount a new type from a sport bike.
 
Your plan sounds good, and I think it could help build your portfolio. Thing is, it's all pretty standard, race-spec stuff. You want to forge some new ground and raise some eyebrows, throw a roots-type supercharger on it. Do it well, and it will have a cool visual impact.

To me, that's thinking much more out of the box and will provide a better value.

super charger now thats cheating. I build everything i ride with all motor. no add on power.
just plan old performance engine building here. with some new tech parts.
yes i hope this turns out to be a head turner in looks and performance.
 
i hope so but it wont be completed. by this summer. it would be like a ratbike. changing from week to week.
It gona take alot for me to get the parts i need. some are being custom made. in diffrent countrys. also i only get a couple of hours on the weekends to work on it. I have to go to up state NY. to pick up some other parts for it from another bike i found.
same year. but looks like its been trashed for years. picked it up for 50 bucks. has no seat, no side covers. but the tank is orange
and it has dirt bike tires on it. kids making a dirt bike out of a little street bike. but need engine parts if they are still good.
also found a XL125 and some SL125 for parts at my local bike yard. gona give the guy 300 bucks for them all as they sit.
hoping to get a bike pile of spare parts. and a wide range of tranny ratios. to help me reach my goal of hitting the ton on a little honda.
i'll get more pics soon of everything once i get the ball really rolling.
 
Speedy you're talking about spending alot of beer coupons to get the same kind of power out of it as you might from say a 250. Is that really worth the effort? I'm all for projects and free spirits. If that's what you want go for it. But I think at the end of the day the thing will still be underpowered compared to most other bikes on the road.

You might blow all the other 125s off the road, but frankly I can't recall the last time I saw a streetbike much under 350-500.
