I stumbled across this stie doing some reasearch about Cafe Racers, thought i would join. Welcome - good to see more members from out West. I travel to Edmonton from time to time and have been looking at renting a bike there next time and heading further West.

First decision on a platform for a cafe racer is engine size. Do you want a lightweight bike for sprinting around town on, or do you want something with a little more power?

Any bike will do. Lots of support and parts out there for Honda SOHC4's (CB500/550/750) and the Yamaha XS650 series.

I've had a CB500, CB550, CB750 and now have a BMW R75/6 and a Yamaha XS650. BMW is stock, Yamaha is the cafe project.

Welcome.
I also had a fondness for Mustangs, as a buddy of mine had quite a few over the years. I bought this '85 5.0 convertable from him, and enjoyed her for a few years, but sadley when my kids came along, she didn't seem practicle anymore.

I do miss her now. :(

As far as building a cafe racer, Tim brings up some of the more popular choices, but if you can find a good deal on a vintage bike, or new for that matter, anything can be made into a Cafe. Well just about anything.
I'm hinda partial to KZs, having one since the '80s.

Here's a nice one:

Nice bike (and car) , im going to be using the bike mostly as a "around town" jumper, but i do plan on doing a few trips to the family cabin and such on the highway. Im hoping theres a bike that good for both, but im leaning towards something a little bigger.
