I seem to have a oil leak coming from my Left Crankcase when the engine is turning over ....
iv only had the bike a while and im not sure if the gasket has even been changed , is it possible The problem is the Gasket or is it a bigger problem??
I should allso mention my bike is 78 cb500t .

Thanks guys.

What do you mean by "left crank case"? Do you mean the cover? Also, what do you mean by leak? Maybe a pic or two would help.

The round cover with 3 screws is over alternator, there is oil in there
to rear of that is sprocket cover, could be chain lube, clutch push rod seal, gear change shaft seal or output shaft seal (behind sprocket)

Ok so slightly late reply ..... Thanks for your input , I went out for a ride this morning ad what I have found is that while the bike is in motion it doesn't leake , its only after a long ride and you put it in neutral while the bike is running then starts to leake .... Also I don't know if this is related but the right exhaust seems to get a lot hotter then the left ad the bike seems to run quite sluggish , is any of this related ? I recently changed the stock mufflers to a lot shorter ones, obviously the bike is vary loud now ( which isn't a problem) but the performance is lacking , do you think the bike would benefit from taking the stock air intakes out and putting some K&Ms in or something I that nature??

Anyway , sorry for all the questions .

Thanks for any input :)

Needs pics.
K&N filters will make things a lot worse
Have you done a 3,000 mile service?

I'll get a photo tomorrow , the leak is coming from the right hand "down seal" next to the drive chain cover if that helps .....

probably clutch push rod, output shaft or gear change shaft seal leaking.
Clutch push rod probably bent or damaged/rusty?
