painted exhaust question

Hello DTT'ers. I painted the exhaust on my CB125 after sanding the rust off to prevent it from rusting over again, especially after I wrap it. Anyhow, I had the VHT paint in hand at the parts store, but opted for High-Temp grill paint instead. (Cheaper, no oven-baking involved) The can said up to 1200 deg. F. After painting I read the fine print and saw that it can get constant heats up to 600 deg. F and intermittently up to 1200 deg. F. So, did I basically waste money on the BBQ paint, or has anyone had luck with this stuff holding up on their exhaust? Or does it even matter since I've going to wrap it anyhow?

Doesn't matter, you're wrapping it. Any paint that doesn't get burned off might still help keep rust at bay though. Hope you're not wrapping in a light color.

Thanks for the reply. I planned on wrapping it in white. Will it bleed through? I could just paint the tape after it is on wrapped. When I was searching for the answer to my question I saw that plenty of people have sprayed their wrapping in the same type of paint with no problems.

Doesn't matter. None of those paints work, even when the base metal is sandblasted first. Your pipes will rust under the wrap either way...

Exactly why I hate to see people do this to perfectly good chrome pipes... Put it on shitty pipes, keep your bike inside and hope you get a good life out of them and then buy another set of shitty ones.
