hey guys!

finally i´m finishing my motor work.crank seals,new pistons,cylinder overbore,a good clean up.

i have questions on the reassambly of my RD 250 engine.would you be so kind and help me.

I made 2 videos to describe my questions, and I hope you will have a good laugh at my broken english,i ve spoken english like 2 years ago. 8)

FIRST QUESTION:

is it normal that one of the bearing can spin freely ,it will stop when it spins to the needle pin hole?

i suppose its possible the spin freely cuz there is no half circle shaped shim underneath that bearing (the other side has one).

bearing of primary side cannot spin locked in pinhole

bearing of generator side can spin, stops in pinhole

crank seals were put in as manual says.

SECOND QUESTION:

i took out the gears to the take a look at the shifting crank and shifting dogs.
did i put them back again correctly?

is the offset of one of the cogwheels normal?everything seems to spin fine....

have a laugh at my noob questions and my funny language!enjoy!

thanks in advance

That's normal, you have a constant mesh transmission. You notice that the slider gear transitions from one side to the other to engage the dogs. That stationary gear is extra wide to stay engaged. The bearing shouldn't spin when the cases are bolted together, however is your seal on backwards? The pressure side is it external or internal? Do you have a manual?

so the dogs are on the right position?i mean there are no other possibilites to put them in anyways, jsut was wondering cuz some parts of the gearing can slide around.

i´ve put the crankseal on the generator on the side of the "moveable" exactly facing in the same direction than the original one.
is it normal that it can spin freely?

Looks like the seal is correct, as far as the bearing spinning, rotate the crankshaft main body around to see if the crank is bent or twisted out of true. If you can turn the crankshaft around and it makes no difference how the bearing spins, it should be true. It really shouldn't spin that easy, but those cases can easily twist a little. After it is snugged down with the lower case, it shouldn't spin. www.carlsalter.com have a free shop manual you can download. In a constant mesh transmission, all the gears turn all the time.

i will try the crank spinning.

actually as you can see in the last pic this bearing is not snugged down, there is no shim for it in the case, also no slit for a shim.

The crank bearings should sit down flush. The most likely cause is a different bearing (middle) holding it up. All 4 bearings should sit down flush in their "saddles". Do you have locating half moon clips on any of the bearings and if so are they down flush? Is the lab seal spinning or stopped as it should be?

You could remove the seal just to be sure that it isn't getting in the way some how. It shouldn't be. but it's easy to check.

hey teazer!

as you see in the video, the middle only bearings can move slightly, the lab seal is not moving in any direction.
you can see in the last pic that i posted that only the primary side has a half moon clip in the crank case embedded, there is no slit for a clip on the moving bearing side (generator).
is it possible that the other side of the crankcase has a pinhole too, which will "pin it down" when i close the cases again?

maybe i will need to ge the crank out again to check if everything sits flush, when i remove the NEW crank selas, will it hurt them to ge tthem out(scratches,...)?

which seal do you mean by :

thank you!

Did you clean all the gasket goo out of the lower saddles? If one of the center bearings is sitting slightly high, that could be the problem. All 4 bearings have pips to stop them from rotating in the case IIRC.

today i took out the seals, cleaned the lower saddles (there was no goo at all but i did it anyways)cleaned all the pips all the surfaces that the crank sits in,including edges.

then i tried again, generator bearing and now primary bearing spun like 180 degrees but stopped in the pip with the steel ball.

then i spin the crank with seal.and.without seal,it could spin freely.

when i spun the crank without seals,i tried to move the bearing left and right and they were moving depending on the position of the crank diffenently.

so bearing movement was different in OT then in the other positions.sometimes it was easy to spin a little sometimes it was hard to move on both sides.

so here is what i guess now:

1.)the primary crank bearing is touched by the crank seal,so it cannot spin freely.
--when i put the seal out it moved just the same as the generator bearing.

2.)the generator seal is NOT touched by the seal and has NO shim in the lower saddle.....

so the movement of the bearing will be naturally all different then the other one which is 'pinned down'by the seal

--i checked the upper case (needs a good cleaning, will do before reassemble)

the little steels balls will be pushed down by the straight edge of the upper crank case right in the small pips in which they now rest in the lower case.

...so i guess....

the problem is solved :-) ???
