Siezed cb450 cam chain removal question

Hi Guys,

Quick question, my new '68 cb450 came seized and now it's time to see the Pistons! Can I split the cam chain and remove the top without messing with the cams? Then simply reassemble and follow a procedure like the chain broke and is being replaced?

Appreciate your advice! -David

Yes. You will just need to put the cams in the correct position (cam timing) when you put the new chain on.

end of line

The 450 has a Pressed on link. You MUST find the old one and grind the pressed side off, otherwise it is recommended to get a new chain rather than having a chain with two joined links. Then when you get the new link, set the timing with the little marks on the cams with the marks on the casing, press on the new link. There is not a lot of room for a link press, I made one that would fit in close.

As well make sure that the chain is in full front tension, not rear side tension.

Typically it is a little tricky, the links are cheap, buy at least two. Save you time waiting for another one if you find your first attempt is off a link....
