So, noticing the prices of widescreen LCD's are dropping, I decided it was the sweet-spot time to sell my 21" HP LCD and wait for the 24" panels to drop in price, likely in 4 months around boxing day.

Put it up on Craigslist for $300. You can buy the exact same model at BestBuy for $270+tax. Go figure, 3 people jump all over it.

One of the guys is close to me, and also has a 17" LCD he'd like to sell. I'll need one in the meantime to replace the 21", so I ask him what he wants for it. He says $75, which is cheap enough.

So I go to his place tonight, and make him an offer - $240 + his 17" LCD for my $300 LCD. Effectively I'm offering him $60 for his LCD.

He haggles with me - tells me $250 :o So he counts out $250, hands me his 17" LCD and off I go smiling. Put the 17" Viewsonic (nice) LCD on my daughter's PC, brought my old Dell 19" that she had been using upstairs and now I wait for a few months to find the deal on a 24" panel :)

And now the conclusion to this tale.

What prompted me to go down this road was I noticed someone had posted 2 Dell 2407WFP 24" LCD panels for sale - current models, for $325 each or $600 for the pair.

This is very very cheap. They're $650+tax new. Today the seller contacted me and I went out and bought both.

So now I'm using a HUGE 24" widescreen 1900x1200 LCD to type emails :D Thing is freaky big. 2nd panel is going to my brother in Winnipeg, where he can use the light from the panel to light up the 6 months of winter.

See in the dark crisp clean prairie winter air...

or burn off the GTA smog...

Hmm... think I'll stay put ;D

Now all I have to do is convince Tracey that my current 17" LCD is a better fit for her desk than mine ;D
