Swingarm Shock Bushing removal?

I took my frame and swingarm to get powder coated, only to realize I had completely forgotten about this little bugger

What is this thing called and how do I make it go away?

I've tried putting and small socket on one side and a very large socket on the other side, then put the whole unite in a table vice (improvised ball-join press) and still couldn't get it out. Not enough leverage or something.

How are the rest of you doing it? And do replacements exist? It is pretty beat up and probably just needs a new one but I hesitate to destroy it during removal lest they be hard to find.

Probably not the correct thing to do but on my last bike I just taped it off before powder and everything was fine :shrug:

Did it survive the heat alright? I don't exactly need that rubber to be pretty, just to function.

That bushing is still available from Honda used on current model bikes.

Thanks DrJ. I just found them. I guess I could just drill it out? Anyone have a better idea?

Yeah mine survived fine.
Like I said probably not the best idea.

I can't believe the vice wouldn't push them out

I recently had to replace a similar type of bushing on the front suspension of a car. I burned out the rubber with a torch, then used a reciprocating saw to cut through the outer shell so that I could collapse it and remove it. Then I was able to make a press tool with threaded rod and some strategically sized old sockets. (I have a box of old, rusty sockets that I use for tool making.)

If you already have replacements and don't mind throwing that one out, what about hitting it with an air chisel?

Thanks everyone. I ended up drilling out all the rubber so I could get the smaller metal piece out and fit a hack saw blade in there. Then I cut the outer piece out.
