Tiny battery recomendations needed!!

Floeg,

I'm hoping it doesn't get too cold in your part of Norway. LI-ION batteries lose a lot of efficiency under 10° C. As temps approach freezing, the batteries actually have a special warm up procedure in order to help them start the bike and even then it can be a little iffy.

Personally I wouldn't even attempt it with a GS400 twin, the charging system is worse than CB 360
If it's GS or GSX 400 four cyl they are much better but still need an upgraded regulator/rectifier
You'll need something with capability for 60~70 amp initial draw and about 45amp for 10~30 sec when cranking.
Voltage mustn't drop below about 9.8v during this time (unless you have points ignition)
What year is GS?

That's first year for the GS400 four stroke motor
I think GS750/1000 stator will fit into generator cover and give much more reliable system with higher charge rate (been a long time since I did these swaps)
Decent (modern) solid state regulator rectifier and it should all be good
I still find Honda use better quality than anyone else (Suzuki are generally pretty crap, even today)

It was a 78 when i looked in the registration papers, but that doesent make much of a difference i assume?

At riding season its about 15-35 degrees celcius over here.
I`ve been talking to a local guy who has wrenched these twins, and he strongly recomended me to use the "brick" size battery to avoid to many issues with charging and stuff.
I might follow his advice if i can find a decent place to put it.
Might have to reconcider my seat and make a caferacer look instead...

Build year and registration year are frequently different.
Frame plate will be build year

But the difference in specs are nothing to shout out loud about tho :P
Exited to see what i can make out of it in this first weeks of 14.

if you get a li-ion battery, definitely factor into the cost buying the specific battery charger for that battery. i was using a antigravity 4 cell in a single cylinder klx400R for about 1 year, and it never flattened while starting except on two occasions where the bike had sat for three or four weeks and was extremely hard to start (8 - 10 bursts on the starter, on the first occasion i recharged it from my car battery, but the second time my jumper cables broke and so i hooked it up to the trickle charger for 20 mins, checked the voltage every 5 mins with a multimeter, but it peaked at 18 or 19 volts and that seemed to break it. now it doesn't hold charge very well anymore

shorai batteries.

I have one on my cb750 (and 360). The cb750 is stock battery spec in 1/4 the size.. maybe 1/3. Still using starter also. no issues!
