I'm sure you got your answer, but I'm about to buy a 78 engine and put it in a 75 frame..assuming the 74/75 frames are the same, I'll get a definitive answer so when other people search, they'll get the answer too.

Haven't been here in a while, but how did it work out putting that 78 engine in the 75 frame?

all SOHC engines CB500-CB650 use the same mounting points. so any cb500, cb550, or cb650 engine will fit 500/550/650 frames from 1971-1982. 1983 was the first year of the DOHC cb650 so from then on it's different.
