Hey guys!

I m currently restoring and cleaning the inside of my RD 250 mufflers.
I bought some new wrapping for the baffle.
In the package there are 2 kinds of wrapping.

Silica based and fiberglas.
THe package says that i should use as a first layer the silica and then continue with the fglass.

Unfortunately the space for wrapping is limit,i dont want to pack it too much.If i wrap it with the silica theres not enough space for the fglass.
What should i do?

the packing will get fixed with stainless steel wire.

I was under the impression that they never came with any packing...? I wanna say there was another thread on it recently.

Any pics of your restoration? I restored a brown '73 as a teenager, my first bike. Loved that thing! Still have the photo collage I made of it hanging in the man cave :)

I'm gogin to guess the silica based fiber is meant to keep the fiberglass from blowing out the perforations in the pipe. It doesn't attenuate the hifgh frequencies as well as fiberglas though.

So basically it'll be a smidge quieter with just fiberglass but last longer with the silica. They may also be trying to protect against temp wth the silica but I doubt an RD gets hot enough to melt the glass.

Don't worry about packiing it too much. You won't be able to overpack it if you're doing it by hand.

ill try to put 1 layer of silica then fiber and then use the wire to bring it down to the level of the baffle,is like 1 cm space to pack...not much.
