XS650 head differences

Anything post 1973 should be fully interchangeable, and perhaps even the heads from the earlier 256 engines.
The head and rocker cover are a machined pair, so you'd ideally want a matching set. They are stamped with numbers. This is because they mate with no gasket - same as the engine cases. Cylinders have gaskets top and bottom.

Rewind the tape a bit - let's talk about why you need to know?
What engine do you have (serial number - does it start with 256 or 447)? You likely can't tell anything by just looking at the head, except I think the black painted engines tended to have black on the inside of the rocker cover as well.

447 CASES and a cupl heads all came in pieces my customer wants to know if my heads fit his 1975 thanx for your patience and help
