1977 Yamaha XS750 Cafe Rebuild

Looking fantastic! Can't wait to see it wired up. http://kickwrench.com/2012/01/18/diy-wednesdays-how-to-mount-your-cafe-seat-for-5-in-5-minutes/

That was how I mounted mine with some changes, but good thinking on yours!

man! you know i thought about mounting mine like that! good to know someone else has done it. Hopefully mine will work out ok, it clamps on pretty tight but I guess time will tell. thanks!

Update: Well... for the last week I have been waist deep in frikin wires... definitely have no clue what I am doing. Luckily I have a father that is an electrician so hopefully we can make sense of this mess. In other news... started the upholstery and should have some pics up soon. I am thinking the bike will be black with blood red accents.

Google for wiring diagram, that helped me out for sure. Rivet gun for the upholstery (if you're redoing a stock one that is).

Posting two videos here... because what better place to show off some XS750 stuff.

First video is a stop motion of the XS750 carbs being rebuilt... amazingly helpful when doing your own:

Second video is just one of the nicest XS750 start ups I have ever seen:

Update: Got my gauges in from dime city cycles and they are lookin pretty sharp. Have not hooked them up yet but happy how easy they mounted up.

Update: Went and bought some Marine grade vinyl and some hardcore string. Got my buddy Kyle to make a custom seat and it looks pretty awesome. I am going to do the handle wraps, kick, and foot pegs with the same blood red vinyl.

Bringing in the wiring professional while I fix the handle bars and mount the headlamp/break light.

Update: Relocated the push start and ignition for the bike... put them where the old handle bar hole mounts used to be... i think it looks frikin awesome. Insanely lucky though, both the button and ignition fit perfect.

Nice!
Can you move the ignition up to be flush with the top of the triple?

I really tried... but the stock ignition has a bracket on the bottom that cannot be removed... at least not by me. I made a simple mount and it fits perfect. Good news is that when the key is in the ignition it is flush and does not stick out the top and get in the way.

What paint direction are you headed?

upwind... if thats what you mean... I am going to wait to do the gloss black and clear coat inside the shop, just got to get one of those darth vader masks first. Might have picked the windiest day of the year to do the primer.

LOL I mainly meant color choices.

Ha, I was going to go black with blood red accents to match the blood red seat. Eventually do some red handle wraps, kick, and pegs too. But the main color will be black. I was thinking about a blood red stripe down the center but i cant make my mind up.

Very nice! You could do something with the red and the dished-in areas on the tank, as accents. Paint them all red with the remainder of the tank black, or outline them in red pinstripe, or etc. etc.
