Bucky's '74 CB360 Hardtail Bobber Build~"Root Beer float"

Re: Bucky's '74 CB360 Hardtail Bobber Build

i think it looks damn good, are you gonna shove a batt in there aswell, or just use a cap? i know there was talk about using a kohler tractor regulator/rectifier on the 450/500t which it ends up being a 3 wire system then, and seems quite small, which would give you more room if it will work on the 360.

Re: Bucky's '74 CB360 Hardtail Bobber Build

I am wanting to use a capacitor with no electric start. Will prob have to remake most of te harness.

Re: Bucky's '74 CB360 Hardtail Bobber Build

The electrical box is cool, but trust me... You don't want to have to remove that many screws to get into it. If you break down on the side of the road I could see those timy screws being way more of a hassle than I'd want to deal with. Maybe less screws or even better, how about a hinge and an embedded rare eath magnet to keep it shut (if that makes sense).

Also, I'm interested to see how you plan on installing the TC bros kit on that 360. The Honda CBs are about the most difficult bikes to safely and correctly hardtail due to the stamped steel backbone and the offset lower rails. Are you building a jig?

That is a good point. I might just put shorter bolts in the front cover and have magnetics in the reverse flange and hold the blind flange on with the magnets for quick access.

I will be building a jig for the rear end of the bike.

Re: Bucky's '74 CB360 Hardtail Bobber Build

the wire harnesses are extremely easy to simplify with good factory components. i've done a few 450/500t's and a 350. pretty much connect the colors and theres an ignition hot and switched along with the ground. im sure you could find something via the forum to show you exactly what you need to do.

So contemplating paint skeme/general theme of this project.

In one hand, I have always love this theme. But is totally cliche, and done by many.
*Flat black paint
*Red/white pinstriping on tank/fender
*Red rims/hub with chrome/stainless spokes
*White walls
*White header wrapped pipes
*Shorty ape hangers
*Brass accents
=Classic rat rod bike...

One the other hand. Still a classic theme.
*Shiney Rootbeer candy paint with pinstriping on tank/fender
*black rims/hub with chrome/stainless spokes
*Brass accents
*Black header wrap
*Shorty ape hangers

mmmm decisions...decision!

Re: Bucky's '74 CB360 Hardtail Bobber Build

Root beer, flat black has been done to death. So have red wheels and wide whites. Unless you just want a 50s style...

Contrasting color spokes. My 1963 CL72 will have black hubs and hoops, and either cream or body color spokes. I'm too cheap to spring for fancy spokes when the old cadmium or zinc plated ones are usable.

Picked up my parts for the laser cutter today. And piece of 4" sch 10 stainless pipe from the scrap bin at work.
Fit the 17mm axle perfect and I can now use my stock chain/axle adjuster!

Re: Bucky's '74 CB360 Hardtail Bobber Build

Started getting a feel of how the hard tail will play out.
Rear is stretched 5" and lowered 2" in the rear. Overall wheel base of 58"

Not quite sure on the handle bars either stock,(6") or some Harley ones 12" ape hangers. I am leaning toward the 12" since I'm 6'3"

Any way take a peak.

The plan is to bend the remaining part of the frame to meet the new hardtail and slug it
The new hardtail would move inward to be inline with the frame. So the width is a bit deceiving.

Let me know what you think so far.

Doing some Autocad Sketches of different exhaust designs. Plus over all look.

If performance is a consideration, number three looks like the winner.

Yup. The first two might look/sound cool but number three will "work" best.

Re: Bucky's '74 CB360 Hardtail Bobber Build

Scored my new rear fender at a swap meet today.
It is a spare tire cover for a '37 ford I believe.

Anyone know who makes whitewall tires that will fit the CB?
