74 CB360T Rookie Build

Been Around the Block
I had to abandon the 500t because of a bad motor. :-(
So, I picked up this gently restored 74 CB360T. This bike started as 3 bikes and was built/rebuilt by a local shop. Everything in original good condition was kept and all parts needing rebuild or replaced were. I love how great the original paint looks. Unfortunately, its just a nice base for what is my first bike build. I've been away from bikes since i was in the Corps 10 years ago so forgive me before hand for any amateur questions i may have. Just want a nice clean looking, functionally sound, better than stock performing, cafe bike. I already have a good idea of what itll look like so the majority of what im lacking is mechanical knowledge of the 360T. Any and all comments, concerns and help is appreciated. Lmk what you think! Im super stoked to get that first bolt off!

Also, since this bike is near perfect mechanically. Im trying to fund this cafe build with itself for the most "part". Everything i take off this bike will be avaliable. I'll be picking it up early next week and the stripping will begin. PM me if there's anything you want dibs on. Obviously I'll have to spend some money but just trying to supplement with the beautiful stock parts.

First order will be fork brace and damper. Im having a hard time finding a brace specifically for this bike so Ill be contacting Jim from Fast from the Past about one that'll be safe to use. Or any ideas he or you guys here ar DOT have. Theres like 10 cb360 builds going on here haha surely one of them prioritizes handling/performance like I do and might be able to help me with the aame hurdles they over came.

Re: 74 CB360T Rookie Build

More info on work done to the bike by the shop...
New OEM style tires and tubes.
Six speed transmission
Rebuilt front caliper and master cylinder with OEM Honda parts.
Rebuilt carbs and petcock with Honda kits.
Brand new chain, spark plugs and battery.
Excellent reproduction seat cover on perfect original foam and rust free pan.
New OEM Honda grips and fork boots.
Factory original levers and switch gear.
All original pegs and rubbers in excellent condition.
Very nice chrome fenders.
Gas tank is spotless inside. Never any rust!
Everything works including the electric starter.
Very clean bike! Retained the factory finish and it does show some patina. Both mufflers have the customary rust spots. Right side is under the pipe and only visible if you are on the ground, left side has a pea sized hole near the end shown in the photo.

I would enjoy it as is for a while. Find out how shes gonna run and shake out any bugs. It may turn out to be a pretty nice machine. So, why get in a hurry to screw it all up. lol

+1. Leave it the way it is. A complet 360 with nice stock exhaust? I`d enjoy it just the way it is ;)
It is a nice bike but thats what i wanted to start with, a bike thats been through thoroughly. And 360s are absolutely everywhere. Im not gonna feel bad one bit making it the bike i want ;-)
All parts coming off are up for sale.
PM me with offers if you see something you want.

Thanks trek, gonna need this haha

Agreed. That is beautiful. Im all for modifying, just about everything, but man!!!!

Either way, Im sure you'll have fun with it.

dont get me wrong dude.

Im all about throwing the chopsaw and welder at it. I am just thinking you should take a little time and enjoy it for what it is. that will let you find out what you like and what you want to change. Also, if an issue was to rear its head. i.e. an engine/transmission/electrical issue. then you will know where to put your $ first.

Like I said,
if you lower the bars, the seat will feel too high, pegs need moved....etc

So, install some new rear shocks. Check the air filters are clean, check the oil. Ride the shit out of it for a couple months. do some reading... Then tear into it.

Thats all.

Yeah i see your point. Im very eager to turn it into the bike ive been thinking about for years. Ive got a seat coming from slipstream mid week and a lead on some nice rear sets so thats handled. I would like to give the bike a go for a few weeks before i start modding. That'll give me time to continue my research and line all my parts up. Need to do some pre build planning. Like you said some parts need to go on together.

slick looking bike man.
look forward to seeing its transformation

360's do seem to be everywhere so...have at er haha

Thanks man yeah I'll be updating often with pics, questions and my growing pains im sure haha

How about this, look at it this way. In my neck of the woods its about to become SPRING. WHY on EARTH would I start to tear apart a running, riding, recently cleaned up and maintained by a a professional mechanic bike NOW? Meaning NO riding at ALL until it is finished.

Don't make no sense to me but to each his own, where's this 500t you are talking about? Sounds to me like you have a project and a soon to have a rider, that makes the work on the project that much easier, when you have a bike to ride while you wrench on the other. SO many projects go unfinished because people get tired of them, trust me having a rider helps to keep that interest up.

Im not pulling the engine or anything over my head so i dont understand why you think it'll be unrideable haha. There might be a day or 2 in March that i can take it out but we just got 9in of snow yesterday so I'll believe this "spring" talk when it comes haha. The 500T is still at the local shop. While finishing some jank wiring, he couldnt get it started and realized the cylinder was heavily scored reqhieing a bore and new pistons. So i got a good deal on the 360t instead.

Tweak Bar and C/F Seat came in today!

ok I gotta ask. wtf is a tweak bar? besides shiny. and if that cf seat came from Benjis...Id be delighted to drive over kick you in the nuts and take your money. well whatever $ you got left.

Honestly im not 100% sure either haha got it for 30 bucks on ebay. CarWash found it and since nobody makes a fork brace (i know now that a fb isnt necessary on a 360)i was curious so i got it. 66Sprint on HT had this to say about it...
While a Tweek bar does provide some added rigidity to a front end, it MUST be mounted on the tubes ABOVE the traveled area, limiting its effect on the parts in motion..........
A fork brace that mounts at/on the tops of the sliders and keeps tem spaced properly (concentric and parallel with the tubes) is usually preferable.....

Basically its a cool vintage performance part that i couldnt help but want haha. Eager to see what, if anything, it does.
