Hi guys,

just wanted to show off my CX racer. just rebuilt it but still have a few issues and search for advice.

Just a few notes:
- raised the rearend
- dropped the frontend
- fully adjustable clipons
- moto guzzi seat
- removed airbox
- (now) mini battery
- CB750 brake cylinders with stainless lines

and the not-fun-part:
- poor rattlecan paintjob
- carbs not yet rejetted
- oil leaking on left rockerbox
- cooling fluid leak when hot
- turnsignals not working (f***ed up some fuse I think...)

cheers

timo

Nice lookin wheels - welcome to DTT!

How much did you lower/raise each end? Just concerned about throwing the geometry of the bike off.

hey,
the rear and rised about 2 inches, the front end lowered about 2 inches. didn't recognise much of a difference.
wheels are stock but i have a 18 inch rear wheel for replacement now...

Nice looking seat, what guzzi is that off of? Do your blinkers come on but not flash? You may just need to add a resister. I have a 81 cx500c also. Have you ever considered changing to the cx500 D tank?

The seat was made for a guzzi le mans as far as i know. blinkers worked once but now they don't. either a cable came loose or the fuse blew. I can figure that out if I fixed the big issues.

Don't want a CX500D tank. Right now I got a DKW tank from the 40ies which I fell in love with. just need to widen the tunnel to make it fit to the CX (and of course get rid of the rust ;-)

Nice looking CX. There seems to be more and more popping up here.

What type of battery are you running now (make and model)? You mentioned that it's a mini? Any problems cranking the motor over and running electricals?

new pipes (They ROAR!), new mirror, new flatblack rolled paint, new small battery

new seat, relocated battery and cut some brackets.

But I got a little problem. The engine just does not provide enough power anymore. The carbs are well-cleaned, perfectly jetted and compression test on both cylinders was 130psi or 9 bar. The clutch does not slip (it does not rev up) and the valves are freshly adjusted. I have no clue what this could be.

Earlier it ran 100 mph with that setup and now it's hard to even reach 60mph. Does anyone have a clue what could cause this power loss?

The bar-end turn signals are freakin' sweet! Really helps with the clean look!

Is there power loss during certain rev ranges when the bike is warm? Give us a bit of a description of what's happening champ.

i have the feeling that powerloss gets bigger, the hotter the bike gets. Getting off the line seems to be okay but reving 4000 or more feels really weak.

I disassembled carburetors for rejetting and they looked mint inside. Power was fine as well until I ran it a bit low on oil.

Now I replaced head gasket because I had low compression on one cylinder. What else can cause powerloss?

Maybe an intake / exhaust leak? Or maybe the carbs are out of sync? Just guessing here..... What about a fuel delivery issue - floats not set right, slightly clogged fuel filter, or clogged vent on the tank?

Keep us up to date.

I'll check carbs and seal the exhaust again. Fuel delivery is fine (can see the gas running through my transparent fuel filter).

But can carbs get out of sync on their own?

I'm definitely no specialist on this matter, but maybe check all your cables too (throttle, clutch) and make sure they're all adjusted to spec? Maybe they're sticking a bit. I had issues on another bike with that.

You'd be amazed at how well your carbs can mess with you! :D

I just checked over this thread - did you get a rebuild kit for the carbs? I know you said they are clean and re-jetted. Maybe an o-ring (or 2) got damaged somehow.

What do the plugs look like after you chop them?

It;s your stator. Get onto either the australiancx.asn.au site or choppercharles (have to google that one) and try and dig up some info about testing your stator. I'm assuming yours is a CDI bike? You could also google stator testing...

I'll see if i can find you a link.

Thing is you've confirmed it gets worse when warmed up and that its over 4000. The high speed coil kicks in at about 4500 i think so these are classic signs of a fucked stator.
