Project "Wish I Had a Garage!" CB175.....

Whitey80

You're all idiots.
Alright, I guess I need to do one too! Here's my 1971 Honda CB175. Got it as a restored bike to begin with, so I have the benefit of already having a fresh motor and gears, rebuilt suspension and all the little bits. It came as a tip from one of my tattoo clients for which I have done both his sleeves and continue to work on who also happens to be a mechanic at Sun Honda/Harley here in Denver.
Really only going cosmetics so far on this one.

So here are the pics I have so far:

Just as I got it.

Bodywork needed a ton of finishing before prime and paint.

Doing the red portion of the two-tone right now

That's where I'm at so far. Didn't take any photos while installing the clubman bars, dammit, they were more work than anticipated.

Any and all opinions and insights are welcomed.

Re: The nameless tiny motor cafe build

That's a hell of a tip mate! Loving that you are keeping the factory 2-tone and actually running good rear-sets ;D Can't wait to see her finished!

Re: The nameless tiny motor cafe build

Just unmasked the tail. pulled a little of the white with the tape, even after an overnight dry. Will touch it up then wet sand and prepare for clearcoat in a day or two.

Still have to do the belly pan, but need to go pull a kickstand off of a junkyard bike. Won't work with a center stand.
and will pull the tank and add the pinstripe to it in paint as well.

Re: The nameless tiny motor cafe build

Man paint can be so frustrating. I like that you're keeping the colors. Painted my friend's little CB in a "stock" pattern.

Disregard the poor upholstery.

Re: The nameless tiny motor cafe build

a few more pics of the final test fitting. The upholstered seat pan hasn't yet been cut to fit around the tank mount, that's why it sits up a little high in the front for the moment.

Is that a chopped tank for the tail?
Dig the black pinstripe. Definitely helps separate the tones, especially when they're both light color.

Yeah it was a junked tank we cut up. This pic is just a mock up. You can see a lot of the angles are off. Ended up shortening the seat and pulling it all in tighter. shorter shocks for the rear and fixing the exhaust. It was a pretty sweet bike. Buddy just traded it for a nice BMW r80.

The pin stripe really made the colors look better. I also decided I'm never painting yellow again. What a nightmare. We had super nice paint and still it took like 6-8 coats.

That's a nice upgrade!

Man that upholstered tail looks great! Are you going to add the white stripe to the tank? Maybe an upside down two tone for the side covers?

Nice work so far man, very clean.

That bike is gorgeous. Very tasteful upgrades.
I try to keep it classy and all.....since I look like a trailer park scumbag!

And also shooting for bike of the month eventually! Make me feel validated and all!

That is exactly what I'm gonna do with the tank. But, I am also finishing up the belly pan for under the motor and frame as well, and was going to flip the paint scheme upside down for that, so the airbox covers may just go straight white.

Got a bit more done over the weekend. Got the seat actually mounted and made a taillight housing and such. Will post some pics up shortly.

This is where I work!

Waiting for the housing to dry. PVC pipe and screw in cap to make changing the bulb simple. Lots of epoxy

Had to take a trip over to Steel's motorcycle salvage today to get a kickstand. Of course after looking through the thousands of bikes laying in the yard, I picked up more than a kickstand. Got some pipes, a headlamp for my Yamaha tracker, a perfect CB350 tank, a really nice all chrome Hodaka tank and a speedo.....for $40, for EVERYTHING. You could get lost in there for hours! I didn't even take photos of the whole place....it's ridiculous.
