    1971 Honda 175cc Cafe Build

I finished this project in the Summer of 2017, a full five years after my first post in spring of 2012. So being a couple years late with the final build photos doesn't feel too bad. Thanks for the help and support everybody. To anybody finding this thread in the future – Stick with your...

Anybody still alive out there?! I'm working on this project again, and just made a new thread asking for help with the most recent issue I'm having. Here's the link: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=73917 I'll throw some new pictures on here just to keep you interested:

I'd say yeah, maybe there is a little blue to the smoke. I didn't replace the valve stem guides...I'm pretty sure I remember just putting the old guides back in. I did rebuild the motor, just the top end. new rings, honed the cylinders all new gasket set. Well since one cylinder has never...

Hey guys, just thought I'd throw a quick questions on here. I'm gonna pull the engine out of this bike tonight. Ever since I rebuilt it, there's been white smoke coming out of the left cylinder. Not to bad on idle, but when I rev it, it really shoots out. The plug doesn't really get too...

Hey guys, sorry I got behind on posting here. Good news - the bike is up and running! Bad news, still have a lot of things left to do. As you can see I have about 12 inches of extra slack on the cables, so I need to get them shortened. It's also been smoking out one one cylinder, which I...

Thanks man, in reality my welds usually suck ass. Up until a few weeks ago the only thing I could get out my $100 harbor freight welder looked like a series of blobs and bubbles. I am starting to get some better welds now, even an actual bead sometimes. I guess it comes down to having the...

Hmm i took a measurement on the pipes, looks like 1-1/4 inch ID and 10-3/8 OD. Maybe I'll order a couple of these and hear how they sound - http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINI-MUSCLE-MUFFLER-BAFFLE-4-LONG-1-1-4-DIA-USA-MADE-/270689121950#ht_840wt_1165

Yeah, I've been working on tons of stuff: The clips ons I got were only 9 inches long, wasn't enough room to run the stock controls, I thought about looking for after market levers, throttle, etc but figured it'd just be easier, and cheaper to add a couple inches to them - Been sorting out...

    CL175 Exhaust and Carb Tuning

Hey could tell me more about the "vw tips w/ baffle" you mentioned? I just did the same thing as the OP would like quite things down a bit.

Got the electrical problems sorted out. So dumb. I had the black wire that was coming out of the ignition switch grounded. So as soon as the switch was tripped the 12v was grounding to the frame. Got the carbs set enough to keep it idling. There's quite a bit of smoke when it runs, which I'm...

Yeah I have both. Checking continuity, you're full of great ideas.

Good idea. Right now I have everything but the lights and handlebar switches hooked up. So - ignition, ign coil, condenser, rectifier, generator. No starter on this bike, so I don't have to worry about that. In the morning, I'll just unplug everything but the ignition on see if still blows.

Also, I guess I'm lacking a fundamental understanding of what causes a fuse to blow. Obviously if more than 15amps go through it, then it pops. But if say, I have power shorting out to the frame, how does that cause an increase in amperage?

    1971 Honda 175cc Cafe Build

Hey guys, now that I've got that engine back together and back in the frame, I've finally had time to hook up some wiring and see if it'll start. After some trouble shooting I figured out I was blowing fuses every time I turned the key. Any ideas on where to look for the short? Thanks for the...
