Pretty much finished up the Aermacchi this morning. I took apart the carb and cleaned it out. It was running but only with the choke on. So the idle circuit was plugged from sitting with todays crappy fuel in it. Only thing left is to do something with the kick stand. When up it interferre...
It has new coils and good spark. I can't find the valves. They must be missing.
Got it running, the pet cock leak and floods it.
Still looking for the valves.
Starts fine when I want to go somewhere and then doesn't when I need to come home!! >:( >:( >:(
Now it won't start at all. I've got fuel, petcock on, got spark, battery charged, air, exhaust pipe not filled with gas (that's another story). It should start. Won't even fire with starting...
Cleared the tank and seat pan with 2 part polyurathane today and straightened out the mufflers.
The polyu is resistant to fuel so the paint will be protected.
Bobbed the rear fender and installed a new tail light on the seat pan. I bought another fender to chop so I could save the stock original fender.
The fender I bought was missing a bracket to hold the fuse. So I did a quicky fab job.
I cut the end of the fender off so it would extend just a...
Sanded the tank with 2000 then 3000 grit and got the orange peel off. Buffed it out with polishing compound.
Taped it off then sprayed the stripes with metallic black.
I'll spray the tank and seat pan with clear 2 part urethane next.
Thanks everyone for the compliments and encouragement.
This project was going to be one wham bam thank you mam quickies. But I've been working on this since January. The real challange is to make every thing bolt on to existing mounts or holes. If I want to it can be returned to stock by just...
Going for the Aermacchi racer look. Aermacchi's have a very successful racing history. Walter Villa won three 250cc and one 350cc World Championships for Harley in the '70s, and Aermacchis are credited with 16 wins on the Isle of Man (BSA has 13). A 350 Sprint took the IOM GP Classic 350cc race...
Sprayed the tank with some orange enamel I had laying around for a base color coat.
I'll color sand it with 1000 grit and put some acrylic enamel on it and then the racing stripes. Final coat will be clear urathane.
Sticker for the tank
Still need to connect the rear brake cable and...
Sealed the fuel tank using the Eastwood motorcycle tank sealer kit.
Finished painting the seat pan. A friend of mine does vinyl graphics so I'll have him make some stripes for me instead of painting it and screwing it up.
Put on some flush fairing turn signals. I like them cause they...
Got the shifter hooked up. I had to make a shift arm for it out of another shift lever and shift arm. I just cut the splined mounting piece of the lever and the arm off the shift arm and welded them together.
Did a quicky paint job on the frame and added some stickers.
Got a couple...
