I simply cut off a small piece (a couple of cm's) off one side and cut some new threads.

I know what that's like, my bike is stored a 40 minute drive away. - So every time I get the chance to go work on it, I spend the first 30 minutes trying to remember where I was up to and what I need to do. Good luck with it though, I'm sure it'll fire up soon.

Is there any issues with running all the power through the ignition switch? Or is it better to run it off a relay triggered by the switch? Eg: Battery -> Ignition switch -> Coils, headlight, etc
