Here they are on the bike with 2 light coats of oil.
I suppose one weekend when I am feeling bored, or next time I clean them, I'll try some RED dye. They def could be a little bit more red as opposed to purple/red.
But I don't think I'll ever get them to exactly match the red crankcase...
Ok I gave it a shot.
Regular RIT fabric dye. I wanted the liquid but they only had powder. I wanted RED, but they only had SCARLET RED. Purchased it anyways.
I dumped 1-4 or1/3 of the packet in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. Filled with very warm water while swishing around. I figured...
Thanks guys, I figured it was at least worth a shot.
Should I take off the 'chrome' cap on the end of them, that says K&N on it? Will the dye effect that, or will I be able to rinse that off and restore it to all its chromy glory?
I'll post pics when I'm done.
You know what I'm saying. Some idiot would call them for instructions, completely f*ck up the job they told him to do, then call them back and say it was their fault.
So I'm guessing K&N won't give me advice as to how to dye the filters red... :o
Then again, I've not tried to call them yet...
Hey there
I have some K&Ns on my girl and I'd like it if they were much more red than the oil makes them. I have red spark plug wires, but the pale pink/light red color the pods filters are is hardly RED compared to the wires.
I do have a RED crankcase breather filter. It comes from K&N...
Thank you. I didn't realize that could be disassembled. I will investigate further.
I've not taken the camshaft out yet and indeed the manual makes it look like that part of the camshaft holder which can be removed includes the cylinder head cover bolt hole. I didn't even realize this. I...
Well, as I've seen from other posts here I guess this seems to happen from time to time.
Tightened down the cylinder head cover bolt a little too tight in its helicoil and snapped it off.
Started to drill it out with success. The pilot hole went nice and smooth. I put the extraction thingy...
Got the answer on another forum:
I have an '81 CB750F
Turns out the stock Tach screw is like 5mm or so too short. Replacing with a 25mm M5 will fix the problem.
Yes, totally and completely stripped.
It was held in there with a very very large amount of gasket sealer. In fact, the entire cylinder head cover was held on with an intense amount of gasket sealer.. Seems the previous owner didn't want to but a new gasket, or hit a snag and used an ugly...
Compression is 90 on all 4 cylinders.
So this is low but at least I guess its uniform?
Since last time I checked compression, I have done valve clearance. Does the manual say that low compression could be a leaky cylinder head gasket?
The gasket that was one there was absolutely covered in...
Back to square 1. Timing looks great. Valve clearance all done. I actually forgot to check compression which I'll do next.
It just won't start..
It makes sounds like when you try and start it and don't realize you still have the kill switch in the 'OFF' position. It sounds perfect all the...
there was a different, darker, slightly harder substance seriously gooped all over the valve head gasket. i had to pry the thing off with a screwdriver. that looks like it didn't really get anywhere else though, it wasn't as pliable as this red crap.
I've not heard of RTV, though I am new to...
wtf is all this red gunk around the gasket seal? I'm thinking the previous owner didn't want to dish out the cash for a new gasket, so he just 'painted' it with gasket sealer or some ish? the new gasket is in the mail to me right now..
Its not sticking anymore, smooth as ever. I don't exactly know what I did. I took off the top and bottom and and sprayed everything with compressed air. Then put it back together and gave it a shot. Not sticking anymore, so ok!
Now have to wait for a few valve shims to show up in the mail...
