1980 Suzuki GS450 ET Colorado Cafe Build

I have been really busy at work, that and it took a while to get the connectors I ordered in. I finally stripped all the bad wiring off and found that the damage actually went straight to the new horn. It would appear the horn had a short somewhere in it. In any case, I have removed it and...

Thanks Matt! I placed an order for the wire. I had some I could use, but figured I would do it right and get the colors I needed. I stripped the seat and tank off. The damage appears to only run up to the steering head. I don't think I will have to replace too much. I actually breathed a...

Here is a shot of the damage. The insulation on the wires is completely gone; there is nothing but copper remaining. I probably won't get to it until Monday. I will strip it down and see how far the damage goes. Pretty bummed out about this. I am just about wrapped up with the seat pad. It...

Ignition fried all the way up to the switch. Think I had something rubbing between the tank and frame that caused it to ground out. I pulled off the switch and saw nothing but copper exposed. I will have to pull everything apart and see how much rewiring I am going to have to do. Hopefully...

Replaced the front pads with new pads (semi-metallic/kevlar). I also removed the old mirrors and mounted the new bar-end mirrors today. I am much happier with these. My step-father said that he preferred the other mirrors. I think we have to agree to disagree. Didn't get a chance to test...

I replaced the back tire a couple of weeks ago. I went with an IRC all-weather tire from Amazon. Dirt Cheap. I could not be happier! The thing tracks so well. It absolutely hugs the road. I put on over a 1000 miles since I mounted and installed it. The only wear I notice is the nubs...

Here is a picture of that license place. Also, is another picture of the carbs after I rebuilt them last. I have found the o-ring kit, hex bolt kit, float needle/seat, main jet, pilot jet, air jet, floats, choke it, and everything else needed to properly rebuild these. It took forever to...

Later on I decided to tackle that charging issue. It hasn't been a big issue because a full charge would last me about 3 or 4 days. So I would just keep in on the charger when I wasn't riding it and I never had to worry about it. I had an oil leak that I wanted to get rid of. I decided to...

I replaced it all with the Dynatek kit. I had to get a non-magnetic spacer to go over the end of the magnetic rotor. I also had to pick up spark plug wires and cut them to fit. The kit comes with coils but no wires. I installed the new kit, which loses the Ignitor. That made me happy...

So after driving it around for a little bit, I noticed that it felt horribly sluggish. I also would get occasional backfire out of the left carb too. One day after driving around for a bit. I got off the bike and looked at that carb. I had already rejetted, cleaned them, bench synced...

So after all of that, the GS450 could be driven... but it was driving a park bench. I need to finish the seat pad and get it on there. I finally gathered all the materials, but I am thinking of changing it. So here is what the bike looked like at this point. Still not as clean as I wanted...

Thank you very much. I will post some more of the updates later this evening. The GS line has a special place in my heart. :)

I decided to paint the bike white. I was going to later paint a red stripe. I figured, the bike is Japanese. Why not do it in the colors of the Japanese flag. I ended up using red reflective tape. Which looks awesome at night and definitely increases my visibility. In this picture I was...

Pictures of the wiring all cleaned up and those mirrors installed. I have since changed the wiring like 4 times. I ordered some bar-end mirrors last Friday. They should be here in the next couple of days. These mirrors, although kind of have that vintage appeal, look ridiculous. I will post...
