Good call. Skid plate for the bottom, front and back. Rubber for the sides and top?

    Protecting underslung battery

Hi chaps, I’ve mounted my battery with two metal straps underneath my bike behind the gearbox. It’s above the lowest point of the engine but also still fairly exposed. Space is tight. Obviously the easiest answer is to stick it in a metal box but because it’s so confined I’m very worried about...

    Carburetor cleaning

Hi chaps, got two carbs on my Guzzi. It was running reasonably well before I had it and has not run now for about 3 years. Externally the carbs are pretty filthy, internally I dont know. I have fiddled with carbs in the past but I really am not keen on the idea of doing anything again. Do you...

    82 Guzzi V50 cafe project

Thanks! I looked up the rules myself actually after posing the question, and if it is built before 86 it doesn't need them :) . However I will stick some on if the tester wants to be difficult or whatever. Made lots of progress today. Welded on a small tab for the tank strap so I could finally...

    82 Guzzi V50 cafe project

Well its been 2 years and I've made a little more progress today. Little one and total lack of funds had stopped play. Still have the baby, still have no funds, but the desire to get this thing up and running this year is back. Worked out how to do the linkage for gears and brakes, with a few...

    Car jump starter as battery

Yeah I know mate, problem is I am wondering if 20mins of usb charging (my average commute time) is enough to replace juice used starting a 500cc V twin plus running lights.

    Car jump starter as battery

Stumbled across these car jump starters using lipo cells that pack a punch- 300A+. Most I have seen are obviously quite generic Chinese things and often packaged up with a load of crap (flashlights etc) but overall dont seem half bad for the price. Only thing is looks like their charging circuit...

    82 Guzzi V50 cafe project

Ok gotcha. How the hell would you attach the thing! :o Been scratching my head today trying to figure out rear sets. Gave up, made up and started welding in electrics tray which went pretty well. I'm getting better at welding. Slowly. Also started to make up a rear tray section using old...

    82 Guzzi V50 cafe project

Smooth join onto hoop now, pics to follow. New brake pads fitted on only one side of the GSX as the shop sent wrong ones! Decided I am going to stick with stock tank for time being until I can make a decision on what to do. Nicked some sheet from work so will fab electrics tray over weekend.

    82 Guzzi V50 cafe project

Hi v-pilot, thanks but I dont need a seat base I intend on fabricating one soon! I think I can mount the rear m/c on the lower frame rail and just about get away with it. Going to tac on a few mounts tomorrow and see what happens. Not sure what you mean about using the front m/c. Got the...

    82 Guzzi V50 cafe project

Went to fit seat hoop today but couldn't work out suspension travel. Just dug out the manual if anyone is interested the rear shock travel is 67-69mm + 8-10mm 'bottoming stroke' - whatever that is. So if I work to 80mm all is good.
