Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

I didn't realize that about the 176. Maybe I'll try just plugging the air jet with the 176 and see what that does? The 5L1 actually starts out just slightly richer than the 6F. 2.42 at 10mm for the 5L1, vs 2.515 at 10mm for the 6F5. It tapers pretty hard and fast, and I can absolutely see...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

Hey, if you're willing to modify my stock carbs for $60, I'm more than happy to give that a shot. I've still got them, and they're in great shape. I also have basically every jet available for them. I was planning to just sell them on ebay as I figure they've probably got reasonable value as...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

And now it's the end of June... So, Bore-tech recommended VM32's for better power. I've now got at least $200 invested in brass, and have spent at least 50 hours. I'm exhausted, tired of spending money, and have basically nothing to show for it. I do have a half-dozen needles and a...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

Any good history of that working on a thoroughly modified CB350? At this point, I just want it to work, and I think the tuning options available for Mikuni are my best bet. Experimenting on something no one else has done (with stock carbs, even!) is becoming a lot less fun now that I've got...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

A giant pile of snow interrupted my tuning in November. We've had unusually warm weather lately this last week and I was able to make some progress. Sort of. My stock carb had #35 slow, #68 primary and #105 secondary before the rebuild. Post-rebuild, I've gotten it to run best with a #35...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

Some experimentation. Ran better without air cleaners. Since I believe it's running rich, makes sense. Maybe slightly better without mufflers, but that didn't seem to make much difference. I bought some #62 (previously #68) primary jets and #80 (previously #100) secondaries. #62 primary...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

I'm glad someone noticed.... I figure you can't ask for advice and complain about what you get:). I'll run some experiments to annoy the neighbors this weekend and let you guys know. I wish I had access to a dyno.

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

Stock filters. Will try no filter when I try no mufflers.... Needles should be good, as they worked great before the rebuild, and there's no positioning with stock CV carbs.

Except that I've not measured it at all....

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

No, I didn't run the new mufflers before the rebuild. I've still got the old ones (rusting internally, one of them lost an internal baffle), and could try them. The new ones certainly look like the old ones, and this design is hardly complicated. That said, the bike is now significantly...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

Once again, the carbs were functioning perfectly. The slides are rising, and they worked great before the rebuild. The jets before the rebuild are teh same as they are now: 35, 68 and 100. Thanks Barnett for the link of where to buy jets. First place I've seen smaller than 68/100...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

Stock air filters. Don't have a compression gauge. Guess having one would wouldn't hurt.

I can also confirm that both valves are closed at the TDC mark on the generator, and I think that would be wrong if it were a tooth off, too.

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

Good points, and I do have a query out to boretech as well. I did not buy the degreeable cam sprocket, assuming that stock setup would be close enough for my purposes. Unfortunately, the points backing plate isn't a good indicator because the dowel pin that goes through the cam is missing...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

This is a very reasonable point. Part of it is that I (possibly mistakenly) don't believe the stock carbs are turds. They worked great on the bike when it was stock, and there are tons of people very unhappy with Mikunis on stock bikes. The CV design is clever and well-adapted for a street...

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

I do not believe the jets were modified. These carbs worked perfectly on this bike until the rebuild. I completely disassembled and reassembled the carbs this weekend, and they look perfect. Diaphrams are intact, no holes. I'm certainly willing to believe it's not a jetting issue--I just...

Can timing could be wrong. How can I verify without pulling the engine?

Not-Stock CB350 Jetting on Stock Carbs

I'm very much having a problem at higher revs. Or I would be if it would rev that high. Idle is good, 2-3.5k is terrible, 4.5k is okay, but can't go higher than 5k. Timing is good, or at least as good as its ever been. Don't know I can verify better than with a timing light on both sides...

But... it's running rich. Bigger carbs? Not smaller?
